Promoting Sports in Educational Institutes:
Let’s move forward-
Help Your Children Breath: Sports Education-
According to a study by imperial college, it was proven that the human height peaked 30-40 years ago, and it has been declining ever since.
The fall in stature has not been substantial to remark as an alarming situation, but it rounds toward one important issue- the health and growth of younger generations.
As per research, only 18% of kids aged 5-10 fall in an optimum weight bracket, while 36% are obese and 20% have disturbingly low weight.
Several factors lead to inappropriate growth, such as low-quality food, long hunger spans, and lack of exercise.

All these reasons can be traced back to their root cause, which is the manipulation of young brains, which tend to fail in intelligent decision-making.
For instance, kids nowadays prefer to eat burgers fried in deep oil with little nutritional value instead of homemade food rich in nutrients.
The reason is simple, the advertising campaign only shows the tempting side which is persuasive enough to alter young minds, and the food chains which are there only to create profit, eventually succeed in their aim.
It isn’t only about burgers; it includes everything they consume; most of their decisions are based on false advertising, which presents an offer irresistible to refuse.
As far as lack of exercise is concerned, this is quite an issue and will be discussed further in the blog, so keep moving!
Parks And Physical Activities-
Although technology has had its benefits, we can’t ignore its downsides which are generally visible in people who aren’t good enough to decide for themselves.
Time and time again, there have been numerous studies proving how excess usage of technology could be harmful to children more than for adults, mainly because they are in their growing phase and their body tends to react sharply to the environment.
To simply understand it, All electrical devices emit some ultraviolet rays absorbed by the body, resulting in mutations of cells and slower blood circulation.
These problems can lead to a slower growth rate, weaker bones, and hindered organ performance.
The only solution to avoid UV rays and improve hormone mechanisms of the body is to spend time in open air/parks and play physical games that allow muscle utilization which helps in growth and sustenance.
But all isn’t quite well, as the solution still has obstacles to implementation and can’t be practiced as easily as it sounds.
A Decline In Physical Sports–
Over time, there has been a rise in indoor games that require little to no physical effort, and they have replaced the traditional physical games that kids used to play a decade ago.
This is harmful, which most people fail to realize. By substituting games like cricket and football with indoor games, we are dampening the physical potential of our children and putting their future at stake.
We are all here to play our part for the betterment of society, and In this blog, we aim to address this issue and highlight why sport is as necessary as general education and how a better sport structure can be established in schools and colleges.
Before we start, it’s essential to handle one misconception amongst people.
A lot of students during their early years aim to be popular sportsperson who would bring honor to their nation one day, but still, social pressure and chances of failure take over their thoughts and end up pushing them in a demotivation spiral.
They end up choosing studies over sports, and thus the nation gets another “What-if” athlete.
Why Choose One?-
It is unfair for students to choose between education and sports, it’s like giving up on a challenging lifelong dream to find a more straightforward reality, but we can curb this problem by taking both things sideways.
You succeed as an athlete, that’s great, but in case you can’t, you should still have enough qualifications to fall back on.
However, there is a common argument saying “people that play safe never made it big”;
The misconception mainly arises because people believe that succeeding in sports only comes by practicing the sport 24/7 without paying attention to anything else.
However, that’s not the case, there are tons of sportspeople that had remarkable educational degrees alongside a list of sports medals.
Here are a few examples of Indian athletes:
He was the first football captain of India and represented them in the 1948 London games.
During his time, he was one of the very few Indian athletes that competed at the world level and brought international fame.
His skills as a sportsperson didn’t mean he only knew that, but he did his MBBS studies in Kolkata and graduated as an MBBS doctor in 1952.
She graduated in electrical engineering, getting a degree affiliated with Mumbai University.
She started practicing her career as a software engineer, but an accident caused a severe injury that led to her leg being amputated.
However, her story isn’t sad; she got back on her feet with an artificial leg and crushed all her competition to become a world badminton champion.
If you have been following India’s table tennis, you will know how he rose to fame to become a star boy of the federation.
His fantastic ability and constant devotion to succeed as a table tennis star didn’t mean giving up on education; he has done a bachelor’s in IT from St. Joseph college.
Now, I am pretty sure these examples would have motivated you to be the best athlete while being no lesser in your academics.
In the later part of the blog, we will be working on how sports can be implemented alongside academics in institutions.

The Benefits Of Sports Or Physical Activities For Students-
You may be surprised to know that India has the highest suicide rate in South-East Asia.
According to the reports by NCBC (National Crime Records Bureau), every hour, one student commits suicide in India.
In 2019, around 10,335 students died by suicide in India, which was the highest since 1990. One of the primary reasons for the increase in numbers of suicide death among students is failing to handle stress, anxiety, and depression.
The most effective approach to help students or learners cope with stress, anxiety, and depression is by encouraging them towards sports and physical activities.
Besides improving mental and physical well-being, there are several other benefits of physical activity and sports. Let’s discuss them further in detail.
Stay Fit & Healthy-
The most significant benefits of physical activity and sports is that it keeps you fits and healthy. It helps prevent chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke & metabolic syndrome.
Not only that, it improves overall mood, which would let students focus and concentrate better on their studies.
Helps You Cope-Up With Mental Disorders-
As discussed earlier, physical activity helps to reduce mental disorders such as stress, anxiety, and depression.
According to the studies, physical activity increases the production of endorphins in your brain, which lets you feel relaxed, reduces pain and discomfort.
Develops Team And Leadership Skills-
There is nothing wrong with saying, “success comes with teamwork, and sports is all about teamwork.” Whether it’s football or cricket.
In sports, every participant or team member is required to follow the team leader’s instructions, which helps develop Collaboration Skills in students from an early age.
Moreover, it also develops Leadership Skills that are crucial for students. It boosts their morale and allows them to communicate effectively.
Therefore, ensure to focus on sports activities that aim to works in groups.
Improves Academic Performance-
If the students would feel relaxed and calmed, it would be easier for them to focus and concentrate on their studies as they wouldn’t have any other worries or tension.
However, students worried about their results or exams would find it challenging to focus on their studies.
Furthermore, recent research revealed that children who participate in physical education could better regulate their behavior and stay focused in class.
These were some of the benefits of sports or physical activities.
There are various sports or physical activities that can be introduced in schools using limited or few resources.
It includes sports such as cricket, badminton, basketball, cycling, jumping jacks, jump rope, football, racket, jogging and running.

Promoting Sports in Educational Institutes:
Physical activities or sports benefit children in various ways. Parents, mentors, and school officials must encourage students to participate in physical activities and sports.
Below are some of the ways to encourage students towards sports and physical activities.
- Firstly, the instructors should inform students as well as their parents about the benefits of physical activities and sports.
- Teachers should conduct physical education classes. When teachers/instructors conduct regular classes, it will build healthy habits in students.
- Another way to promote sports education is by hosting sports events.
- The school management should organize sports tours.
- If the playground is outdated, then it must be upgraded or renovated.
- Lastly, the school management should reward the participants that would encourage other students.
