We always wanted to see some changes in our education policies. Finally, the day has come.
Listen to the podcast here! In this post, I will be sharing my views about the new education policy of India.
Let’s go through the article and understand how important this decision was for India’s growth and expect changes in the next couple of years.
Thought Process And Decision Making
New Policy Of Education In India 2020-
The Two Railway Tracks
During summer, kids often spend their evenings wandering and playing around in the open sun.
Kids living around the railway track would often go and play near the train’s route.
The path had two tracks distanced by some meters; one was the regular train track while the other was less used.
To understand the story, keep reading……
The Simple Decision
Following the above condition, there were many children playing on the regular track.
In contrast, only one kid played on the new path. A train approached the route while the kids were playing on it.
The train could be redirected to any of the two tracks. What would be your move?
Will you save the one on the right path, making the conscious decision, or the ignorant ones?
We pity the one kid who would have to be sacrificed despite making the right decision.
The stated idea could be the only smart move because saving the broad population at the stake of one life is worth it.

But what if, in the same settings, you face a difficult situation. Both tracks are equally populated and have the same number of kids playing on them.
The train could similarly be redirected to any of the two tracks. What would be your decision on the updated settings?
Will you prefer killing those who possibly by mistake chose the wrong route? Do they deserve this fate?
This situation might puzzle you, and the train might probably pass before you decide whom to save.
Policymaking And its Importance
Policymaking is far more complicated than making the decision above. While the decision above would have one-time results, a policy’s outcomes shall stay with a nation for at least a decade.
Hence, it is essential that the best plan, catering to every possible group’s interest, preventing every probable repercussion, bringing the best of the benefits is made so that nation can prosper in the right direction.
India has produced a new educational policy that appears to be the first step towards modern India.

Education is not about degree and diploma; it is all about knowledge and wisdom. – Nitin Namdeo
India tried to enlighten its education system with a dead-on policy, but unfortunately, the plan was criticized on many downsides.
According to the economic survey 2019, India spent 3% of its GDP on education, which wasn’t enough in such a populated country.
Moreover, the education standard was provided with a curriculum that consisted of repeated teaching methods, techniques, and rote learning.

Another fact that added fuel to the fire was that higher Education was given more importance than the primary education program.
The system also lacked vocational Education, which resulted in the student’s undeveloped study basics.
The policy was also challenged due to the high dropout rates in recent years. Last but not least, the system failed to provide qualified and well-trained teachers.
It also didn’t implement rightly on student-teacher ratio; it was 30:1 in the private sector, while in government, it was 60:1.
This hindered quality education affects learning outcomes and students’ futures.
As a repercussion, students lost their opportunity to avail themselves of decent jobs.
Some of the major criticisms are highlighted below in greater detail.
Practical Learning
According to education experts and analysts, practical Education is more interactive than theoretical learning.
It develops a better understanding of students’ concepts and knowledge with experience retained in mind for a more extended period.
Unfortunately, the old policies created by the respectable Government in India only focused on theoretical Education.
The strategies didn’t improve the concepts of young students. Conclusively I would say,
“Reading a chapter of engineering won’t help, but doing experiments will surely do and will improve your engineering skills.”
Outdated Curriculum
We live in the 21st century where technology is changing, everything is updated each day, but unfortunately, we have never realized how old our Curriculums are.
Our young generation is reading the unrevised studying syllabuses that our ancestors did.
The world is updating its curriculums with the latest topics, such as Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing.
The previous government in India didn’t realize the need to update its curriculum.
It is never wrong to study the old curriculum, but it is necessary to keep our generation updated with the need of the hour to compete with others.
Expensive Higher Education
Most brighter minds have to leave their Education as they reach universities because they don’t have the resources to continue their education.
The government’s poor policymaking is often challenged, which hasn’t introduced any effective policies to support them in getting higher education.
According to a recent report, only one in every ten Indians has a graduate degree due to the rising cost of schooling, making it extremely difficult for financially weak families to let their children continue higher studies.
The only way to deal with this challenge is by creating policies and increasing the number of scholarships so that every deserving candidate can afford higher education.
Importance & Major Outcomes Of The New Policy of Education In India-
India introduced Education Policy 2020 to improve the infrastructure and bring transformational changes in the education sector worldwide.

The implementation of Education Policy 2020 would help to grow India’s economy.

The new policy addresses all these issues that will decrease students’ dropout ratio from schools, colleges, and universities.

Criticisms Faced by India’s New Educational Policy
Education is the sole difference maker between success and failure.
Despite aimed to revolutionize the education structure, the national education policy has its deferred flaws.
Although the policies designed have been updated as per the needs of the modern world.
However, it still had some misses, which must be addressed, amended, and implemented throughout the nation to achieve the best outcomes.
“Sometimes good and evil aren’t so much opposite as two sides of the coin, you toss it one way it looks good, toss it the other way it looks evil, sometimes it depends on which end of the gun you are on”- K.Hamilton.
While this policy might benefit the nation’s educationists, it might negatively impact the other parties.
One major conflict of interest arises from the increase in the proportion of GDP allocated as a budget to the education sector.
The government has suggested raising the education sector’s budget to six percent of the overall GDP; while this might be a piece of news that freshens up your mind, it might not be the same for people at the other end.
India has a large proportion of its budget shared between urban development, Indian defense, agriculture, and public works.
An increase in the education budget means a decline in the overall amount available for these vital departments integral to society.
Numerous claims have been raised since the change in the allocated budget, and critics have raised the point that the budget invested is far more than the need for the education sector.
The stated idea has found many supporters. The leading cause of increased support lies in the fact that Education has been the government’s primary motive, followed by increased budget allocation to the notable sector.
However, instead of wasting, the fortune has been spent inefficient, ineffective, and unproductive.
Be it weak accountability or rising dishonesty and corruption; Education has suffered severely in past decades.

Criticisms happen to everything, but we should analyze things before concluding.
Watch a fantastic video about the changes.
The Conclusion
Conclusively, the times of coronavirus have been challenging for everyone around the country, and the education sector, just like any other sector, has suffered at the hand of the pandemic.
The government released its education policy amidst the pandemic period for the year, indicating the education sector’s heed.
The policy has been revised to correct the older directories’ flaws while revolutionizing our education system.
Be it the changes in assessment pattern or the move from rote learning to applying practical Education.
The policy has embedded a wave of enthusiasm and cheerfulness to supporters of Education around India. They have long waited for a system that caters to all their needs and adds value to their profile.
However, the garden’s greens shall turn orange as autumn arrives, the policy on paper looks convincing.
Nevertheless, it would require better implementation and close accountability if the plan were positive.
As education supporters worldwide, we wish for the best to happen and the policy to be one massive stride towards India’s education system competing globally.
