In this article, I want to talk about the importance of education while looking for a job.
I will be sharing a fantastic story about a teacher and how he could bring change.
Listen to the podcast here! Let’s read through the article and understand how critical education can be in our day-to-day lives.
Education And Its Impact On Employment
Japan has gained immense popularity due to its manufacturing sector, and the products produced by the country compete with the best in the world.
But before the technological revolution began in Japan, it was famous for its eating style.
Japanese people would usually have rice or noodles, which are to be eaten with chopsticks, a culture widely followed throughout the country.
Let’s understand this with the help of a story.
Story
The New Teacher
The scene relates to a top-rated engineering school in japan, where a new teacher taught maths to the Class but taught them the value of education.
Mr. Heung was a young man who had qualified from the same school and went up to become one of the most prominent teachers of the subject.
Undisciplined Class and lack of interest
Upon his entrance, Mr. Heung found the Class to have a rowdy environment; the students didn’t pay the deserved heed to the teacher and kept on with what they were doing.
“please pay attention to the board, or you’ll be punished,” it was after multiple requests from the teacher that the students paid him attention. Still, the lack of interest was visible on their faces.

The Idea To Change
Mr. Heung took no minutes in recognizing their disinterest, and his wisdom gave him an idea about what the children lacked.
He believed that the children weren’t bored of the subject but were bored of the education system, mainly because of their inability to judge the importance of education in developing, nurturing, and completing every aspect of your life.
He planned to give them a lesson that they would never forget.

The Noodles And The Chopsticks
Mr. Heung completed his lecture that day and ordered the school management to provide him with some bowls of noodles and chopsticks for the next day.
On the next day, Mr. Heung entered the Class and observed a similar atmosphere as the last day.
It took some minutes for the bowls of noodles to arrive, and they were settled at a table.
The children had their mouths filled with water as the smell of the flavors odour of the noodles.
Kids And The Noodles
Mr. Heung asked the kids to eat the noodles without touching them with their hands; students took their time but could not figure it out anyway.
Mr. Heung then placed the chopsticks on another table and asked the students to race to get the chopsticks.
The students ran towards the table, and some of them picked up the chopsticks while some were left empty-handed.
Those who got the chopsticks were allowed to eat while the others waited for a lot more time, after which they were also entitled to have the meal.
The Lesson To Value Education
The students were confused at Mr. Heung’s behavior until one of them broke the silence by asking the teacher what he meant from this practice.
Mr. Heung found the children more attentive than he ever could, and he knew that his mission succeeded.
He started by saying, consider this practice like your life, the noodles as your employment/life success, and the chopsticks as education.
As soon as you gain the chopsticks, getting access to live’s success becomes more comfortable, while those who failed to get an education were deprived of it.
Although those who did not have the chopsticks eventually gained access to the noodles, the noodles were dried, cold, and not the best.

The Eternal Piece Of Advice
Although the story was a lesson for the students, it is no lesser advice.
The information simplifies education’s significance in bringing and helping you maintain a more comfortable and more successful life.
Although some of you might point out that most millionaires did not become wealthy, doing a job and education is not a business necessity.

While the argument would have stayed valid if education was only what you think it is.
Education covers a horizon above and below the planet; it includes everything inside, above, and beyond what we can imagine.
Education refers to going to school until the 10th and pursuing college until the 12th; it puts all efforts into getting into a respected and popular university to get a job.
Although the latter statement is true, it is part of education’s vast and expanded definition.

Thomas Jefferson- Philosophy
“To penetrate and dissipate the clouds of darkness, general minds must be strengthened by education”- Thomas Jefferson.
The 3rd statesman of America was a man of great wisdom; he believed in attaining knowledge and diversifying his abilities into multiple fields.
During his prime time, he was considered one of the most prominent diplomats and an excellent architect, philosopher, and lawyer.
The statement for the statesman came at a time of great national distress. America was suffering at the hands of the British, racism was peaking, and general people were the cause and suffered terrorism.
The Hovering Clouds of Darkness
This quote is held today, mainly because it has been over two centuries, and we have still not given education the level of importance it deserves.
Even if we limit the definition of knowledge to the economic benefits it brings, we would yet have plenty of positives to keep on track with a significant educational flow.
According to a general estimation, it has been calculated that around 30% of the employed countrymen have studied an undergraduate program or more.
In contrast, the majority has studied lesser than it, while 25+% have a grade five or lesser qualification.
Despite having a small share of the working population, 30% of qualified people are paid around 80% of their overall salaries.
It can be perceived that gaining education shapes your profile, helps you develop a better character and personality, and helps maintain a good lifestyle.

According to a UK survey, 7 out of 10 high school graduates are promoted to a higher grade or level within twelve months after joining.
Similarly, In India, Private companies also prefer to encourage University graduate students. In contrast, the others with a diploma in their respective field have to wait for a long time.
The main reason behind this is the graduated candidates have in-depth knowledge in their fields, and their skills are unmatchable to diploma holders.

The Conclusion
“Opportunities don’t happen; you create them.” — Chris Grosser
Currently, only 46% of graduates are employable in India.
The number is too short compared to other states such as Israel and the United Kingdom, but we are far ahead of other countries like the Philippines and Afghanistan.
The number has dramatically improved by 2-3% in the last few years, but this isn’t where we stop our journey.
We need to increase this rate so that every citizen of the State “India” enjoys a better lifestyle.
The first step we need to take to increase the employment rate is Making Higher Education Accessible for every student so that every graduate can find a job.
Our responsibility, including me, every citizen, and Government, to take a step forward.
